This introductory course is perfect for newcomers to digital photography as well as those with past experience but a desire to refresh or improve. We start with the basics but quickly accelerate to look at how your camera works, and why it appears to frustrate you at times. You will learn how to get the best out of your camera to improve the quality of your photos, as well as new creative techniques to help you advance your skills and thrill the people who view your photos!
Class numbers are kept small to ensure personal attention, so book early!
What you can learn in BDP 101 – Intro to Camera Use & Shooting
Cameras & equipment, options, recommendations – everything from what a camera is, to what kinds of gear are handy
Camera settings & functions – learning about all the knobs and dials, which ones are important, understanding the complicated processes inside your camera, and how to get the best results out of it
Shooting process & case studies – an approach and skill set for shooting on the go, what you need to know to shoot the main kinds of images, and looking at what can go wrong and how to avoid these pitfalls
Composition & design – the science and art of structuring a good-looking image while shooting
Outing to shoot new material in some challenging environments – Sunday outing to practice our new knowledge at some exciting and fun locations around the city
Tips from the field – powerful techniques & suggestions while out shooting, the kinds of things only a seasoned travel photographer can tell you from years of experience
Dates & times
Saturday 21 April, 1.30-5.30pm, at a venue in District 1, HCMC.
Sunday 22 April, 8am-4pm, various fun locations around District 1, followed by a complimentary lunch at a good restaurant, a quick overview of our shooting, then more photo-shooting fun in District 1.
What you’ll need, & need to do
Gear – preferable
All you need is a decent digital camera. For total creative control of your shooting, I recommend a DSLR or advanced compact camera, but don’t let this keep you from coming along and learning. If in doubt, email me for clarification and advice.
Costing
US$195 (or VND 4.1mil), including a full colour print-out of the course material, lunch on Sunday, and transport and costs for the Sunday outing. Full advance payment is required to secure one of the limited places, so please let me know if you’d like to book, and I’ll send you details for payment.
